Why is parental consent required?
Under Swiss data protection law (DSG) and GDPR, we require parental or guardian consent before users under
16 can create an account on WordRunner.
About WordRunner
WordRunner is an AI-powered literacy platform that helps students master vocabulary through
gamified learning. The platform:
Uses spaced repetition algorithms to optimise learning
Provides AI-powered feedback on sentence construction
Tracks learning progress and achievements
May be used as part of school curriculum
Data We Collect
For users under 16, we collect only what is necessary for the educational service:
Account Information: Name, email address
Learning Data: Quiz results, progress, XP earned
Usage Data: Session duration, feature usage (for improving the service)
We do not collect location data, photos, or any information beyond what is needed for
vocabulary learning.
How We Protect Your Child's Data
Data is hosted in Switzerland (Google Cloud, europe-west6)
All data is encrypted in transit and at rest
No data is sold or shared for marketing purposes
Teachers/schools may view learning progress if the student is enrolled in a cohort
Your Rights as a Parent/Guardian
You have the right to:
Access: Request a copy of your child's data
Correct: Request correction of inaccurate data
Delete: Request deletion of your child's account and data

How does the actual consent process work?
When your child signs up — either independently or via a teacher's invite code — the app
guides them through onboarding. If they declare they are under 16, the system requests
parental consent before activating their account. You'll receive a secure email link to
review and approve. The account activates only once consent is verified.
